“Teachers learning from teachers: Co-designing conversations for learning”
Teacher Activity Groups (TAGs) place teachers’ experiences and insights at the centre of professional learning. Through reflection, dialogue, and the sharing of classroom practice, teachers learn from one another in meaningful ways. In the SWITLO project, the materials supporting these conversations were developed collaboratively by project partners, teacher educators, facilitators, and participating teachers, shaping prompts and activities that guide reflection and professional dialogue. This process mirrors how teachers design learning materials for students: responding to learners’ needs, drawing on experience, and refining resources through practice. The session explores how collaborative materials design supports learning for both those who design the materials and those who use them - facilitators, teachers, and learners. -

Teachers, Communities of Practice and Sustainability. How are they connected?
The way teachers learn and develop is changing rapidly. There is a definite transition away from ‘top down’ teacher education towards self-directed, needs-led initiatives. Much of this CPD is delivered virtually, and that in itself gives rise to new challenges, particularly around the motivation and focus needed to engage fully with the content and its sometimes rather fragmented delivery. The increasing employment of communities of practice in the ELT teacher community is one of the ways of maintaining that motivation and focus in self- directed CPD. In parallel with these changes in professional development, there is now considerable growth in the understanding of the importance of sustainability, (including, but also above and beyond climate change), and its intersection with English language teaching. This talk will look at self-directed CPD and the role of communities of practice, but through a lens of sustainability. We will look at sustainability in terms how we learn and develop as teachers, but also in terms of the content that we share with our students, and the challenges and opportunities inherent in this. In essence it will explore how our community can become more sustainable in all aspects of its work. The talk will specifically reflect on these ideas in the context of teaching and learning in times of conflict.
The UATEFL Reunion Conference is an opportunity to reconnect, strengthen our professional community, and learn from each other by sharing experiences and new ideas for the benefit of the younger generation and the future of education in Ukraine
